Merrion Square Park is a city gem

 Merrion Square Park on Monday.

It was a stunning September day, a far cry from yesterday and today's weather.

In 1930 the Catholic Church bought the land to build a cathedral for Dublin.

Archbishop Dermot Ryan in 1974 handed the land over to the then Dublin Corporation, now called Dublin City Council to turn it into a public park.

On the death of the archbishop the park was dedicated to him and called Archbishop Ryan Park.

Years later when Dermot Ryan was linked to the Murphy Report scandal the park was renamed Merrion Square Park.

A wise decision of the archbishop to hand over the land to the city.

If you have never been in the park then make it your business to take a stroll through it. It's a gem.
