How many African Americans among US Dominicans?
President Barack Obama's speech in London in May 2011. Impressive words.
There are approximately 600 male members of the Dominican Order in the United States of America.
In my 52 years as a member of the Irish Dominicans, I can never recall meeting a black member of any of the four United States Dominican provinces.
Approximately 14 per cent of the population is African American. I am sure there is nowhere near 84 US Dominican brothers.
It would be interesting to know how the Dominican Sisters fare?
In the current issue of Veritas, the periodical of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia Congregation or Nashville Sisters, there are approximately 65 pictures in the 20-page periodical and there is not one African American sister to be seen.
