He commends the Bishop of Cloyne, William Crean, for his recent comments, which are reported on this blog on June 1.
Some years ago the Bishop of Cloyne, when parish priest in Cahersiveen, wrote a letter to 'The Kerryman' about comments I made in a weekly column. Fr Billy Crean also sent the letter to the then provincial of the Irish Dominicans.
It was a nasty letter and 'The Kerryman' did not publish the letter in its entirety. Might it have been more helpful for Billy Crean to have written to me directly?
Also in this week's issue of 'The Irish Catholic' there is a report on the Dominican sisters from Nashville moving in to the Dominican priory in Limerick.
It is unfortunate that 'The Irish Catholic' did not do more homework before writing the story.
David Quinn's criticism of a biased media is certainly to be seen clearly in this week's 'The Irish Catholic'. Ironic.
Maybe it is that the people of God need to be more interested in searching and living the Christian message.
It's time to stop blaming others.
Conor Brady and Justin McCarthy's pieces in this week's 'The Sunday Times' are worth reading.
McCarthy quotes Kevin Coleman, who was an adviser to the reporting team at The Boston Globe:
"[Crean's] claim that the political and media classes of Ireland are trying to destroy the Catholic Church is a variation of a theme we heard in the midst of our reporting."
Cullen argues that the church hierarchy is responsible for alienating many people.
An accurate comment.
