Appalling PR service from the national rail company

On the closed door at Sandymount Iarnród Éireann station there is a detailed notice in Irish and English informing passengers that the station is closed June bank holiday weekend due to enginerring works.

A prime summer bank holiday weekend. Temperatures in the high 20s and no rail service to places such as Seapoint to go swimming.

It is understandable that Irish Rail have to do track maintenance, which means hiring contractors well in advance. Nor can they forecast the weather.

But to do it on the DART line on the June bank holiday weekend?

And even if they have do do it this weekend, how good was their PR in telling their passengers/customers?

Does it mean anytime someone now wants to use the DART they firstly have to check the IR website?

The closure received little or no mention on media outlets over the weekend.

Could they not have had this information on electronic boards across the city?

If the service were closed because of industrial action Iarnród Éireann would place full page adverts in national newspapers apologising to their 'customers' for the break in service and explain it was due to the striking drivers.

Surely not a way to run a railway company.
