The elections in the two German states of Mecklenburg Vorpommern and Berlin yesterday once again means large gains for the far-right AfD.
Because of the refusal of the main parties not to coalesce with the AfD means they will not be in power when the new governments are formed in the two states.
In Berlin Die Linke, the Left Party, which is the successor of the SED, the governing party of the former German Democratic Republic, made major gains in Berlin and most likely will be the leading party in the city's next government.
In Mecklenburg Vorpommern the SPD is in position to remain the main party in the state's next government.
The SPD is Germany's oldest political party. Had the people listened to them during and after the Weimar Republic Hitler might never have come to power.
It's worth noting in yesterday's election it is the Left party and the SPD who have helped stop the march of the AfD.
