In 1988 Channel 4 screened 'A Very British Coup'. It was a drama series on a steel worker from Sheffield becoming a Labour prime minister.
The lead role of Prime Minister Harry Perkins is played by Irish actor Ray McAnally.
Perkins, whose grandfather died as a result of being 'splashed' with molten steel, is the most honourable of men.
He is competent and ethical, wily too, but from his first days in Downing Street the right-wing media and the establishment begin to plot his downfall.
And all the silent men, who never say a word, but work in the background to destroy a good man.
The film is now available on the All 4 App.
A powerful film, highly rcommended. It has a universal message and apposite in the times in which we are living.
