Religion seems to allow people say daft things

In the current issue of the Catholic Herald there is an article by Fr Raymond J De Souza asking if the resignation of Pope Benedict really was God's will.

In the piece he writes that it is not clear if Benedict's resignation was the will of the Holy Spirit.

Reading the piece one would get the imrpession that there are people around who actually know the 'will of the Holy Spirit' in its finest details.

Does religion 'allow' people and some of its ministers say the daftest of things?

The title of the piece is: 'Was Benedict's abdication really God's will'
