Christa Pike, the prisoner US authorities tried to kill last month, spoke last week of the pain she is suffering, pains all over her body.
The life story of Christa Pike is horrendous, culminating in the murder of a classmate. She did terrible wrong. Whatever happens her she is never going to bring back to life the young woman she killed. It is understandable that the victim's mother suffers great pain.
Would it not now be a compassionate act to free Christa Pike?
On this day in 1984, Velma Barfield was executed in the United States; she was the first woman to be killed in the US since 1962.
This would be a fitting day to free Christa Pike.
Yes, prison is a place of punishment but also a place for rehabilitation.
Life is sacred to natural death.
