Dramatic increase in number of people executed n 2015

According to Amnesty International more people were executed in 2015 than in any year in the last 25 years.

With a minimum of 1,634 people executed last year a new record has been made and it is more than 50 per cent up on 2015.

These figures are an estimate as there are no figures from some countries and the figures from China are not a final number.

The majority of executions took place in: USA, 25; Egypt, 22; Chad, 20; Somalia, 25; Saudi Arabia, 158; Iran 977; Irak, 26; Pakistan, 326; China over 1,000; Indonesia, 14.
