Brian O’Neill RIP (1948 - 2023) A gentleman to his fingertips

Brian O’Neill died in Belgium yesterday.

Brian is a former Dominican. He joined the Irish Province in 1966, made first profession the following year and was ordained a priest in 1973.

He left the Order and retired from priesthood within 10 years of ordination.

Brian spent most of his working life teaching.

Some years ago he developed motor neurone disease and lived with it in a stoic manner.

Brian stayed in touch with many Dominicans of his generation over the years and his home in Belgium was always a welcome place for his Dominican colleagues.

Brian was a gentleman to his fingertips. Did anyone ever see Brian being rude or unfriendly to anyone? Most unlikely.

He was a lovely human being and the world is a better place for his presence in it.

Heartfelt sympathy to his wife Detty, their children,  his family and friends and colleagues.

May he rest in peace.
