Wearing masks and receiving Communion on the tongue

We have all been asked to wear face coverings or masks in this the time of Covid.

Last week on the Late Late Show Dr Luke O'Neill showed in the clearest of terms the efficacy of the mask.

And yet the wearing or not wearing of a mask has become a political statement, certainly so in the United States of America.

In Germany the far-right AfD have openly criticised the practice of wearing a mask, indeed, they ridicule the practice.

President Donald Trump uses the anti-mask technique to bolster his support and further his political 'creed'.

Is it disrespectful to suggest that adherents of receiving Communion on the tongue is not a similar story?

Indeed, that anyone should receive Holy Communion on the tongue in this time of Covid seems contrary to all medical advice.

But it is the story of right-wing doctrinaire Catholics.

Just as the wearing of a mask has been turned into a political statement so too has receiving Communion on the tongue.
