Anniversary of the death of Paul Hynes

Today is the anniversary of the death of Dominican priest Paul Hynes.

He died in Dublin on June 1, 1985 at the age of 51.

Paul was an extraordinary person. A man full of energy and intelligence. He did things, got things done, always efficient, no time for nonsense or humbug. His aim and purpose was always to bring the Word of God to other people.

He spoke God's Word and lived it too. Sometmes with a temper. Frustrated with an inward-looking church.

In his mid to late 40s he was struck down with cancer. One day he was a fit young man, the next day his walking was so impaired that he was often mistaken for a drunk.

I still miss the wisdom and friendship of Paul Hynes.
