It's always interesting to listen to Ireland's captains of industry quote how the Germans do things. Today a spokesman for the hospitality sector was arguing in favour of selling alcohol on Good Friday.

In the State of Bavaria all 'dancing establishments' are closed.

Refences to the Vatican selling alcohol on good Friday are also askew. There are no pubs in the tiny state, the supermarket is closed Holy Thursday to Easter Tuesday. The closest one could get to a hotel is Domus Sanctae Marthae, where the Pope Francos lives and they probably do serve alcohol to those who want it on Good Friday.
