What about those bedecked with medals and admired?

Some weeks ago this blog wrote a piece on Patrick Radden Keefe’s book, ‘London Falling’.

His book 'Say Nothing', a true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland is another masterpiece. It was published in 1988, years before ‘London Falling’.

A brilliant read; it’s planned to review the book shortly here on this blog.

Just one thought for now. Reading the book one can’t but question the fairness of this world of ours.

Senior British army  officer Frank Kitson, who was weighed down with medals of service and honour received by the highest authority in Britain comes across in the book as an upper-class killer.

Writing on his death at the age of 97 in 2024, The Irish News described him as a hate figure. The piece quoted the SDLP founder, the late Paddy Devlin, as saying that Kitson "probably did more than any other individual to sour relations between the Catholic community and the security forces,” in Northern Ireland.

In some way or other are we all at the mercy of the rich and powerful, church and State?
