A flag that heralded the end of German terror

On this day 80 years ago, Monday, April 30, 1945 the Soviet Army, soldiers of 1st Belorussian Front, raised the Red Flag over the Reichstag in Berlin.

On that same day Hitler and his new bride took their lives by suicide.

Has the Western World ever appreciated the role the Soviet Union played in saving the world from the German terror? At Stalingrad the Russians promised they would chase the Germans all the way back to Berlin. And that’s exactly what they did.
