Many unrecognisable faces on the lampposts

There are elections in Ireland on Friday, local and European.

The posters across the country with mugshots and descriptions of the candidates but on not a word informing the electorate whether they are running for local or European seats. Why is that?

We have all been festooned with leaflets dropping in our letterboxes but has anyone had a politician call to their home?

And how many of the electorate are familiar with their local councillors? For many the only time they see them is on their picture on lamppost posters.

Strange times.
