Fr Flannery criticises Irish bishops at Féile na Bealtaine

Redemptorist priest Tony Flannery who has been in dispute with the Holy See's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), gave an hour-long interview in the Court House in Dingle yesterday. It was one of the events at this year's Féile na Bealtaine.

There were over a 100 people in the packed Court House, including former Senator Brendan Ryan and poet Niall McMonagle.

Fr Flannery gave an outline of the events that led up to his 'silencing' and how his case was handled by the Redemptorist at an international level and in Ireland.

When asked had he experienced Schadenfreude at the subsequent drink driving offence committed by the former head of the CDF Cardincal Levada in Hawaii he said he did not want to personalise his case and pointed out that he felt had Levada stayed in the job there might have been a resolution to his case.

The current head of the CDF is German Cardinal Müller.

He was critical of the Irish bishops and the current papal nuncio in Dublin but spoke warmply about his fellow Irish Redemptorists and pointed out that they are currently supporting him.

After the hour-long interview there were many engaging questions from the floor.
