Kevin Hegarty writes in today's Irish times about how the church needs to free itself from the calmmy grip of clericalism.
In his last paragraph he talks about the pope's hope to create a minority of Catholic conservaitves who will transform the church.
"To me that sounds like a polite euphemism for an assembly of Rick Santorum lookalikes."
That last sentences catches so much so well.
Thank you Kevin Hegarty.

Kevin Hegarty gets it right all right. The question is how much good it's going to do. The gloves are off now and it's open season on liberals. One is reminded of the persecution of Modernists a hundred years ago.
Watch out, Michael, you'll be next! Where do you plan to do your imposed six-week retreat? :-)
I suppose the best thing is to keep laughing. No point in taking this crazy stuff and the crazy people in a serious way.
But if there is need to push the nuclear button, the safety catch is off and what will spew will be quite amazing and so revealing. And they know that too.
Francis, thank you for your comment.
Yes, a time out for retreat sounds great. Any suggestions?
Monte Casino, Roscrea, Ettal, Maria Lach, Ampleforth.
Come to think of it, the choice is quite extensive.
