A tip for sea swimmers. Irish waters are significantly warmer this May than usual.
From Culdaff on the Inishowen Peninsula to Castlegregory in West Kerry the Atlantic waters washing up against the Irish shores is actually cool at present. It’s not a case of just running in and out within seconds. It’s really possible to loll about in the water. It is unseasonably easy for swimming right now.
The late Fr Larry Collins would delight in these days for swimming. He loved swimming, whether in the Liffey at Newbridge, in the Irish Sea at the Forty Foot or at Seapoint. After many swims, but especially my first swim of the year, I’d phone Larry to tell him about my adventure. No Larry to phone this year.
My late father, who was swimming at 92, always said that the best time to swim in Ireland was August, September and even October.
What would he have to say about this May?
