Approximately 90 days after the Russian invasion Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv is on all our lips. Yesterday Ukrainian president announced that the Ukrainian Army was driving back the Russian aggressor.
It’s not the first time the city has seen battle. On this day, May 12, 1942 the Red Army launched a major offensive only to be encircled and destroyed by the German Army two weeks later.
During World War II the city experienced four horrendous battles.
Of the pre war population of 700,000, 120,000 were sent as slave workers to Germany, 30,000 executed and 80,000 starved.
Professor Lars Pohlmeier on Germany’s ZDF television station said on Tuesday that Vladimir Putin has no interest whatsoever on the number of Russian soldiers lost or injured in Ukraine.
