Maulin on December 1

A misty, darkish December day in the Wicklow Dublin area but in many ways a perfect day to spend in the hills, especially after a break of some weeks. But the downside to the walk, Tess, the labrador was not with us. She's now too old for such adventures.

Maulin, just inside the Wicklow border, north of Djouce and east of Tonduff North was a great destination for a Saurday afternoon walk.

We parked the car at Crone Wood car park and made our ascent through the forest to Maulin. It stands at 570 metres.

From time to time the clouds disappeared and we could see out to sea, the Sugar Loaf, Enniskerry and Bray.

The descent was steep and we managed to walk the last 500m in the dark.

We walked seven kilometres in two hours 20 minutes, our moving time being one hour 45 minutes.

We climbed 406 metres.

The best place to be.
