The story of a little girl

A former Magdalene Laundry 'inmate' on RTE's Morning Ireland today told some of her story.

At that time young men all over Ireland were studying moral theology.

They were the days when the Catholic Church was 'strong' in Ireland.

Terrible.

What is the connection between the Magdalen Laundries and young men studying theology?

Of course it's easy with hindsight to condemn the past. What are any of us doing about the present.

But in the past priests all over Ireland acted as chaplains to convents in every town in the country.

What were they saying to the little girls in these 'Magdalene laundries', what were they saying to the sisters who ran these laundries?

For me, I think of Father Y in the church audit, and make a promise never ever to give power to people so that they are allowed to behave as he behaved. He had power and control, humiliated people too. I saw it first hand.
