Jesus and the money changers in the Temple

The Gospel reading at yesterday’s Mass made for an interesting read. It was the story of Jesus throwing the money lenders out of the Temple.

Menionted earlier in this blog, the three wealthiest men int he US own the worth of half the population of the United States.

A modern fighter jet can cost up to $300 million dollars.

The shares of the Düsseldorf armaments facility, Rheinmetall have soared since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The company is in existence since the end of the 19th century.

The rights and wrongs of the world of money is always a nuanced subject in Catholic teaching and the pastoral letters of bishops.

And yet when it comes to most, if not all, matters of personal sexuality, ‘grave sin’ is the main menu.

Confusing, to say the least?

Jesus is usually understanding and sympathetic with the poor, weak and marginalised. He shows a different side when it comes to his relationship with money and power.

Is that what the churches do?

What a load of nonsense. It is you and not Holy Mother Church that is preoccupied with human sexuality and the sins of the flesh.
