The day the UK decided to stay in the EEC

On June 5, 1975 the citizens of the United Kingdom voted on whether or not to remain in the European Economic Community, as it was then called.

The results were made known the following day, June 6. Sixty-seven per cent of those who voted voted to remain in the EEC.

And on this day, June 6, 1944 Operation Overlord was launched, the Allied invasion of Normandy. The first day of D-Day. Approximately 160,000 Allied troops in 5,000 landing craft crossed the English Channel.
