July 7, 1974

On this day, July 7, 1974 Germany beat the Dutch 2:1 in the World Cup final in the Olympic Stadium, Munich.

On the same day Martin Boyle and Michael Commane were ordained priests by the late Bishop James Kavanagh in St Mary's, Dominican priory church, Tallaght.

Germany won the World Cup again in 1990 in Italy and in 2014 in Brazil.

Frank Beckenbauer captained the 1974 winning team in Munich and managed the victorious 1990 team.

Joachim Löw was manager in Brazil and continues to be manager of the national team.
