The clergy and intolerance

When people comment about an intolerance towards views that many Christians hold sacred they seem to forget about how intolerant the institutional churches have been in the past.

It takes a long time to wash away the scars of violence, intolerance, control and despotic power.

Fortunatley we live in a secular society. Of course it too is far from perfect.

And even today the churches have certain priviliges in this State. The clergy are exempt from jury service, the churches have charity status, the papal nuncio is the doyen of the diplomatic corps.

The wealth of the churches?

Is it wise for clergy to talk about intolerance?
