A lovely photograph in today's Irish Times of Helmut Kohl and Maike Richter. The world will remember Helmut Kohl as the German Chancellor who stood at the Brandenburg Gate the night of German unification - there is much argument in Germany whether it was 'unification' or 'reunification'.
His wife, Hannelore, took her own life seven years ago.
The occasion for the photograph is that Mr Kohl is to marry Ms Richer shortly. Mr Kohl is in his 70s and Ms Richter is in her 40s.
Hope for us all!
