Vatican sacks German Jesuit from his post

The rector of St George Institute in Frankfurt-am-Main, Jesuit priest, Ansgar Wucherpennig has been sacked from his job.

Fr Wucherpennig had been reelected rector at the theology philosophy institute but the Vatican demanded he be removed from his post.

The Jesuit priest two years ago questioned the biblical understanding of homosexuality.

He works in Frankfurt city as a priest for the homosexual community.

He has called for the church to recognise the love between homosexuals.

The Bishop of Limburg, Georg Bätzig supported the reelection of Wucherpennig, as did German Jesuit provincial, Johannes Siebner.

Vicar of the city, Johannes zu Eltz has criticised the Vatican decision, stressing that Wucherpennig is a priest of good standing and a dedicated academic.

"How stupid can it get," he added.
