Desmond Connell RIP

Former archbishop of Dublin Desmond Connell died yesterday. He was 90.

Cardinal Connell had been in Sybil Hill Nurshing Home for a number of years.

He was an academic who taught philosophy at UCD.

In 1988 he was appointed archbishop of Dublin.

Des Connell was a kind man, who enjoyed his teaching job and was a regular visitor to Lourdes.

The job of archbishop was most likely a terrible burden for him. And the system that appointed Des Connell an archcbishop is not fit for purpose.
