Two Maters two sets of people

Visitors to Dublin's Mater Hospital are greeted on approach to the main entrance with a megaphone telling people that in the interest of patients' health, visiting hours must be adhered to and that children under 12 are prohibited from visiting.

Some 400 metres down the road is the Mater Private Hospital and no megpahone messaging.

Different private medical plans and no medical insurance.

I'm a retired RN from Toronto, Canada. I worked 47 years, here, there, everywhere. I've also been a patient, a few times, for major surgeries. Where I would choose to work and to be is in the hospitals which limit the visiting hours. Patients need a rest, and staff need privacy to give the necessary care. Not ONE hospital is free of infections. Children under 12 should NEVER be allowed in to visit. Except maybe ONCE, if a mother or father is dying.

If a megaphone is needed to instill commom sense into people, let it be. My honest opinion, born of experience. With my best wishes!

Thank you for your comment and it makes great sense.

May I ask how you came across the blog?

You're on the sidebar of "Attempted Essays" (Francis Hunt). If you wish to know more about me, you could look at my comment on his post: "Debates and Deliberations".

In addition, I'll say that I grew up as a traditional Catholic, learning a lot about Cathechism and Church rules but never truly knowing God. Left the Church for years. In the midst of a deep (horrifying) personal crisis, I cried to God, read the Bible extensively, and was saved by Christ. I'm deeply, irrevocably anchored in God. A bit put off by some Fathers of the Church (specially Augustine!) I am not sure (having tried many) of any organised Christian churches. It could be my own imperfections, not theirs! But I do feel a strong connection with other Christians. Actually, my strong connection is with all human beings, Believers or not.

My best wishes. May God bless you.
