Nonsense words from theologian

This morning on RTE Radio 1 Fr Vincent Twomey in the course of an interview in which he called for the relevant bishops to resign, said that the 'Irish bishops were responsible to God'. Later on in that same interview he said that, 'the Irish bishops were ultimately responsible to Rome'.

And that in so many ways explains the mind-set of the clerical church around the world.

Fr Twomey is a retired Professor of moral theology.

Is it any wonder we are where we are?

Populists have that unique ability of appearing on so many stages at so many times. And it so easily can be couched in words that sound learned.

Michael et al,

Hi! I haven't written on the blog for quite some time. I've had the privilege to read Francis Hunt's truly excellent posts on the Nov
28th entry. Francis writes, among other things

"Donal Murray seems to think similarly. If I understand his reaction to the criticism of him in the Murphy report correctly, he wants to wait for feedback from the priests and people of his diocese. If he gets the impression they think he should resign, he may even do so."

Of course, one could cynically say that Donal Murray will engage in such a process in the almost certain knowledge that a people used to infantile obedience to the system will not challenge him in any meaningful way, thus giving him the justification he needs to remain in post. The same obeisance which caused the cover up will also collude in the covering up of that cover up.

Disgraceful!
