Over 1.18 million people qualify for the Free Travel Pass, with the total number of beneficiaries increasing to over 2.06 million when spouses and companions are included.
If a person qualifies for the Free Travel Pass they are also entitled to travel free in Northern Ireland. To avail of the concession they are obliged to apply to Translink in Northern Ireland.
But that is not to be confused with travel between Dublin and Belfast, which is covered by the Republic of Ireland Free Travel Pass.
