Coverage of the upcoming marriage referendum is certainly building up a head of steam.
The Yes proponents and their No counterparts are in deep debate right now. Some are impresive, others have been less impressive.
On April 27, bookmakers Paddy Power were giving odds of 1/10 in favour of a Yes vote.

I had this leaflet from the referendum commission in my hands the other day and read it. It said at some point: "the State, therefore, guarantees to protect the Family in its constitution and authority, as the necessary basis of social order and as indispensable to the welfare of the Nation and the State." On the next page it stated: "The courts have decided that a married couple with or without children constitute a 'Family' in the Constitutional sense".
I started a discussion with my wife because i wanted to find out why a family is so indispensable to the Nation? I had a feeling but couldn't back it up. Why are 2 people which are not married of less value for the state then 2 which are married (i.e. John & Jack being a family)? It didn't make sense to me! On a website called 'The Heritage Foundation' did i find the answer i was looking for - i had something to do with children:
"Marriage is based on the truth that men and women are complementary, the biological fact that reproduction depends on a man and a woman, and the reality that children need a mother and a father..." I mean it's kind of logical - if Jack & John want children they have to take it from somebody else and can't do it themselves. "Marriage is society's least restrictive means of ensuring the well-being of children. Marital breakdown weakens civil society and limited government"... as far as i can see a breakdown is maybe what is wanted really - it would suite big government which records your calls, tracks you down etc.
By the way, whenever had a minority the capability to get their 'wishes' realized with the full backup of governments & media? If 90% of the population don't want GMO or bank bailouts... nothing happens! They tell you there is no alternative and you have to swallow it.
