A brand that seems to be toxic

As in any group of people there are the good, the bad and the indifferent. But is there something about priesthood that makes men rude, selfish and at times downright horrible?

Certainly the Irish brand seems to thrive on the 'cute hoor' model - be inefficient, rude but never admit to getting things wrong.

An audit of Irish priesthood could make a great study. And none of this has anything to do with sexuality. But maybe it has and maybe that's where so many of the problems begin out on their horrible journey.

And so arrogant too.

Well...I met some good priests.

And I met some horrible ministers.

Goodness and badness are not confined to any religion and vocation.

The major problems, with many people in charge of the churches' spirituality, are the abuse of authority and the lack of humility. The job seems to put those people on a higher level where they think they know it all, are allowed special privileges, and are owed respect no matter what they often wrongly do. This is present in other professional leaders too.

It is also linked to the idea that priests, in the past, felt 'untouchable'. And today there is still a palpable arrogance associated with far too many priests,.
