A new British government and chance of football victory

When England beat the West Germans in the World Cup in the summer of 1966 Harold Wilson was prime minister. A Labour government had been in power since October 1964. They had been in opposition since 1951.

At the time of the Word Cup victory is was said it gave Wilson and his government a great fillip.

Victory this evening and again on Sunday might be no harm at all for the new Labour government.
