Catholics jump ship

Figures released show that 2014 saw a record number of people leave the Catholic Church in Germany.

Last year 217,716 paid-up Catholics jumped ship.

Approximately 24 million are Catholic and 23 million Protestants in a population of 80 million.

In Germany the Church tax is approximately €500 per person per annum if you earn €30, 000 gross.. The figures released therefore reflect the inability of people to pay for church membership which is free in other ccountries such as Ireland! It would be interesting to do a street survey in Ireland and discover how many would be willing to pay this!
