I have no expectation that anything will really change, Michael. The clerical church will sit it out and go on blaming the growing marginalisation of the Catholic Church on evil, godless, liberal secularism.
A shame for all those honest, decent men and women who are still inspired by their faith to try to labour on. Personally, as one who parted ways with the Catholic Church many years ago, it doesn't worry me that much. I'm more and more inclined to think that the best chance for those who are real, reasonable, honest Christian believers (not a group to which I personally include myself any more) is to re-organise themselves without significant reference to the clerical church.
